Like many states, the state of South Dakota has made auto insurance mandatory. This state follows the Tort system of rules. According to the tort system of rules, a driver in the state of South Dakota must be found responsible in the case of an accident. Then, this driver and his insurance company have to pay for all the damages caused due to the accident. Thus, to ensure responsibility of the accident financially, the state has imposed strict mandatory auto insurance. These rules have to be followed and any person found in violation will be penalised.
